BOOK

A collection of two or more sheets of any length or shape, written or printed. The sheets are fastened together between covers and may be permanently bound or punched for permanent loose-leaf binding or stored on electronic media, containing no programs or software. Does not include maintenance, installlation, and/or operating instructions applicable to one or more related pieces of equipment, see MANUAL, TECHNICAL. Do not use if a more specific name exists, such as BIBLE; DICTIONARY; and HYMNBOOK. See also BOOK SET.

BOOK SET

DICTIONARY

A book having data printed or stored on electronic media, containing no programs or software. The book contents are a selection of the words of a language, or of a particular class of words, arranged alphabetically, with explanations of their meanings, expressed either in the same or in another language.

MANUAL,TECHNICAL

Two or more sheets, written or printed,or stored on electonic media, containing no programs or software, outlining maintenance, installation and/or operating information applicable to one or more related pieces of equipment. It may have a cover. The sheets may be fastened by staple(s), loosely folded, and/or punched for loose-leaf binding. See also BOOK. For single sheet items, see CHART (as modified) and SHEET, TECHNICAL.

SHEET,TECHNICAL

A single-sheet item printed on one or both sides or stored on electronic media, containing no programs or software, outlining maintenance, installation, and/or operating instructions applicable to one or more related pieces of equipment, or to provide personnel with educational guidance. It may be punched for loose-leaf binding. See also MANUAL, TECHNICAL and CHART.

PARTS LIST

One or more printed sheets or stored on electronic media, containing no programs or software, showing manufacturer's parts and/or assemblies of an end item(s) by illustration and/or a numerical listing of part numbers and names. It does not outline any assembly, maintenance, and/or operating instructions. It may or may not have price list and/or cover sheet. The sheet may be fastened by staple(s) or folded. See also BOOK; MANUAL, TECHNICAL; SHEET, TECHNICAL; and FORM, PRINTED.

BULLETIN

An item printed on one or both sides of as many pages as necessary or stored on electronic media, containing no programs or software, to outline urgent specific instructions applicable to one or more related pieces of equipment or procedures. It may be punched for loose-leaf binding. See also MANUAL, T eCHNICAL; and CHART. Excludes SHEET, TECHNICAL.

PROGRAM,MICROCIRCUIT

A sequence of instructions that tells a microcircuit or computer how to receive, store, process, or deliver information. It is written or printed on hard copy and intended for use with programmable microcircuits. For programs written on a diskette or tape, see also DISK PROGRAM, AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSING; TAPE PROGRAM, AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSING.

HOLDER,MANUAL

An item designed to accommodate and support a manual. It may be mounted on or near equipment.

PAMPHLET SET

A combination of two or more PAMPHLET (s). Excludes BOOK SET and CHART SET, (as modified).

PAMPHLET

An unbound printed publication with no cover or with a flush paper cover or stored on electronic media, containing no programs or software; includes travel folder, advertising brochure, leaflet, and like items. Excludes SHEET, TECHNICAL; MANUAL, TECHINCAL; BOOK; and CHART.

BOOK,PHARMACY REFERENCE

A book used for reference by medical professionals for drug information.

BOOK,MEDICAL REFERENCE

A collection of two or more sheets of any length or shape, written or printed pertained to Medical procedures. The sheets are fastened together between covers and may be permanently bound or punched for permanent loose-leaf binding or stored on electronic media, containing no programs or software. Does not include Technical Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures or Regulations.

NEWSPAPER

PERIODICAL

A magazine, journal, review, or the like, which is published at regular fixed intervals.

CHART

A sheet or plate giving printed information in tabular and/or graphic form. It is not intended for, neither does it have provisions for, recording additional information thereon. Excludes maps; CHART, RECORDING INSTRUMENT; PLATE, INSTRUCTION; and SHEET, TECHNICAL.

GLOBE,CELESTIAL

A spherical shaped item depicting a map of the heavenly bodies.

GLOBE,TERRESTRIAL

A spherical shaped item depicting a map of the earth. It may have other appurtenances reflecting such bodies as the moon, sun, and the like.

HOLDER,MAP ROLL

An item designed to hold one or several map rolls. May include mountings to fix the item in place as well as securing/locking devices for the map rolls.

CHART,METEOROLOGY

A synoptic chart, representing on a plain surfaces all or part of earth's surfaces and on which the principal meteorological elements, as temperature, pressure, precipitation, wind direction and the like, at a given hour and over an extended region could be recorded or are recorded.

CHART SET

A combination of several CHART (INC 14232) with or without accessories.

MAP

A sheet or plate representing on a plain surface all or part of earth's surface, showing physical, natural, statistical and/or political features, or division. Excludes CHART; CHART, RECORDING INSTRUMENT; PLATE, INSTRUCTION; and SHEET, TECHNICAL.

AREA PREDICTOR,RADIOLOGICAL FALLOUT

A transparent plastic map overlay on which is printed a graduated azimuth circle(s) with semicircles representing the stabilized nuclear cloud radii of various kiloton detonations, scaled downwind distance lines angled from ground zero, and a downwind distance nomogram. The predictor is intended for use in making rapid estimates of the downwind area threatened by radioactive fallout from a nuclear burst.

DIGITAL GEOSPATIAL PRODUCTS

A digital map, chart, or geodetic product, distributed, or not, by the Defense Mapping Agency, which is associated with air and/or water and/or land navigation, tracking, and charting.

A thin flexible sheet, strip, or roll of cellulose nitrate, acetate, or similar substance covered with a material which has been exposed to suitable radiations, and has been treated chemically to produce a visible image.

MICROPRINT EDITION

A copy of a publication, such as a book, pamphlet, document, or the like, consisting of graphic images of reduced size on an opaque card(s), or the like, produced by photographic or photomechanical process. The images must be viewed with an enlarging or magnifying device.

DECAL

A design, picture, legend, or shape processed on specially prepared paper for transferring by the decalcomania process to china, glass, metal, porcelain, plastic, and like surfaces. See also MARKER, IDENTIFICATION.

LABEL

A flexible item designed to be affixed to an object by adhesion or sewing to indicate contents, destination, or other similar identification. It may be blank with a surface designed for marking, preprinted, or have data woven into it. May be in roll form if perforations or markings are provided for detaching items of a specific length, or if separate labels are affixed to a continuous roll of backing material. Excludes MARKER, IDENTIFICATION; PLATE, IDENTIFICATION; TAPE IDENTIFICATION; and TAPE, PRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVE.

MARKER,IDENTIFICATION

A flexible item designed to be affixed to an object by adhesion. It may be any configuration and preprinted with legendary characters, symbol(s), letter(s), numeral(s), or coding signification. It may or may not be coated with a reflectorized substance. It does not contain data which indicates contents, destination or similar signification. May be in roll form if perforations or markings are provided for detaching items of a specific length. CARD SET,INSTRUCTION

A set of two or more cards which are part of a set or kit. They provide briefed or outlined procedures for use of the components of the kit or set.

MARKER SET,IDENTIFICATION

A group of MARKER, IDENTIFICAITON having different characteristics, They may or may not be used together.

POSTER

A written or printed document, bill, or placard normally used to display notices, remarks, advertisments, notes and the like in public places.

LABEL,AUXILIARY,PRESCRIPTION

An item that has preprinted data designed to be used in the pharmacy. It may have a pre-moistened backing or a pressure sensitive backing. It may be in a roll form or in individual label format and in various shapes and sizes to accommodate any pharmacy setting. Can include various instructions or use information as well as other data.

LABEL SET

A group of two or more LABEL having different characteristics such as size, shape, color, and the like.
